Mostess: Rebranding Lifestyle Business While Maintaining Brand Recognition

When Mostess first launched over a decade ago, it made its mark as a home lifestyle and entertaining box subscription service. They were featured in Southern Living, Fast Company, Real Simple and more!

The original logo and branding I designed for Mostess reflected its fun, vibrant spirit. However, as the business evolved, the owner shifted the focus to a new venture: offering curated styling services for small businesses and brands. It was time for a rebrand that reflected this new direction, appealing to a more sophisticated clientele while maintaining continuity with the brand’s origins.

The Challenge: Rebranding While Maintaining Brand Recognition

Mostess had built significant brand recognition over the years, so the rebranding process needed to balance preserving the existing identity with elevating the brand’s look to appeal to its new target audience. The challenge was to create a more refined, elegant appearance while ensuring the new brand stayed true to its roots.

The Solution: A Range of Logo Options and Website Redesign

I presented the client with over a dozen logo options, offering a variety of designs that ranged from those closely resembling the original logo to more unique and distinct concepts. This allowed the client to explore how much they wanted to evolve the brand’s visual identity while still retaining elements of familiarity.

Ultimately, we chose a refined version of the original "M" logo, giving it a modern and sophisticated update. The new design reflects the company’s shift in focus but retains enough familiarity to maintain brand recognition.

The original color palette of black and pink was vibrant and playful, which suited the subscription box business model. For the rebrand, we opted for a neutral, sophisticated color scheme, with subtle tones that appeal to small businesses and brands. The more understated palette conveyed professionalism and versatility, aligning with the company’s new positioning as a curated styling service provider.

Consistency was key throughout the rebranding process. We kept recognizable elements of the original brand identity, such as the overall structure of the "M" logo, but elevated it to feel more contemporary and polished. This approach ensured the new brand felt like a natural evolution, maintaining cohesion with the past while moving confidently into a new era.

To match the updated brand identity, I also redesigned the Mostess website to reflect the new direction of the business. Clean lines, neutral colors, and professional imagery now highlight the brand’s curated styling services for small businesses and brands. The user-friendly design emphasizes ease of navigation and provides a seamless experience for potential clients to explore services and reach out for consultations.

The Results: A Successful Evolution of the Brand

The rebrand of Mostess successfully communicated the shift from a subscription box service to a curated styling company for businesses and brands. The updated logo and color palette have been well received by both the original audience and the new target market. By preserving key aspects of the original branding while elevating the design, Mostess has entered a new phase of growth with a fresh, sophisticated look that resonates with its updated focus.

The Mostess rebrand highlights how a business can evolve while maintaining the essence of its original identity. By offering a range of logo options and working closely with the client to develop a more sophisticated visual identity, we helped Mostess successfully transition into its new role as a curated styling service provider.
